Lowry Grand Prix #5

Fourteen players contested the Penultimate Round of the Lowry Grand Prix Series. Series leader Josh Lewer didn't compete this round which opened the door for Mike Mayfield to claim the top spot and he took advantage scoring seven points to take the lead by four points heading into the final round which will be held on Dec 28 in Evans, GA.

In the Open Section, Ben Caiello (2040) & Randy Mosteller (1830) tied for first to stay in the top five with a chance to take the second place prize at the final tournament in December.

The Amateur Section (U1505) was well supported with ten players battling in a very competitive field. Daniel Smith (1449) & David Boyd (1426) settled peacefully in the final round to share first place. New series leader Mike Mayfield & Gunateja Guruvelli (who gained 116 rating points!!) tied for third place a half point back.

The final round of Ashland XXXV is Thursday, Oct 31. This will be the last of rated play for this year. The club will meet for casual play through Nov & Dec with rated play resuming in Jan. Be sure to check back or follow us on Twitter for possible Blitz, Bughouse or Chess 960 tournaments in Nov or Dec.
